Country Club Manor
March
2008 Newsletter
Edited by Lee & Mary Bakewell
OLD IS OUT (LEFT) AND THE NE=
W IS
IN (RIGHT).

Ever since L&M Management, Inc. too=
k over
the management at Country Club Manor, the main door steps in each building =
have
been something of an eyesore. The former owner’s choice of pea gravel
overlayment made the approach look a cut above other buildings of our calib=
er.
However, the harsh MN winters took their toll and the steps morphed into an
eyesore with chunks breaking off almost as soon as they could be repaired. =
But
we didn’t want to simply pour new concrete and have our approach look
like everyone else. After all=
, all
of us here at Country Club Manor are “upscale” citizens and our
curb appeal should reflect that, right?&nb=
sp;
When our contractor suggested redoing both stairways with
Contrac=
tor Mark
Seger (left) came up with the idea, constructed the shelter (above), and
laid the 1 ½” thick bluestone tiles (right). [If you know anyone=
who
needs masonry work done, Mark is at 612-558-7303.]

Do not let anyone i= nto the building after hours that are asking for the office. Please do not let anyone in the do= or that is not YOUR guest. Safety should be everyone’s concern.

Thanks to Kevin, Kathy, Don and Carol for all your help.
I hear the Valentine’s Day party was a huge succ= ess and that our hosts out did themselves again. I bet you can’t wait for the= St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon and all the corn beef and cabbage dishes. I know the food will be great and = of course the conversation is the best. Sorry I will not be able to make it, but please enjoy the drinks on us. Hopefully one of these ti= mes I will be able to attend.
Thanks everyone for your co operation with the install= ation of the new steps in front of each building. I know it was a huge inconvenience= but I trust you all agree it was well worth it.&= nbsp; Thanks to George and Roberta for the GREAT job of cleaning up after = the workmen. It sure was a dirty = job, but the finished product does look great.
Happy Easter and a very Holy and Blessed Holy Week to = all of you.
Till next month God Bless, Mary
A NOTE FROM GEORGE
Well we got through two thirds of the w=
inter.
Let’s hope that Mother Nature gives us a warm March with no major sno=
wstorms.
It is tournament time in
The steps are done!!! It took more time than expected = due to a few different setbacks. The weather was one of the big reasons. The cold and wind made it impossible to work a few days. Then in the 1955 building they had to remove a step and th= en partially rebuild the step back. We apologize for all the inconveniences th= is made on all the people here at Country Club Manor. But in the end, I think = they look great. Hope you agree.= p>
The guest suite, apartment #117, is now rented on a permanent basis. Her name is Janice Lindala, so give her a nice welcome when you see her.
Sunshine Travel will be here March 27th, at 1:00pm in = the Club Room. Remember there is no obligation. Punch and cookies will be serve= d. The lady’s name is, Jeanne Strandberg. She will be explaining about a trip to the St. Croix Valley Wine Country. I hope we have a nice turnout.= p>
When you feel something is wrong with the washing mach= ine or dryer, please contact the office and explain what you experienced. Thanks <= /p>
Remember a St. Patrick’s Day brunch will be on Saturday, March 15th, starting at 11:30 a.m. So bring a dish to pass and ha= ve a good time. Remember, everyone is welcome to partake in this brunch. It will= be hosted by Kevin and Kathy Ericson.

Fuller, is the greatest instructor ever!&n=
bsp;
Best of all, like most activities at Country Club Manor, it’s =
all totally FREE!
Please join us for CCM Aerobics held every Saturday mo= rning at 10:00 AM, and Monday afternoons at 1:00 PM as well! The only cost is that if you DON= 8217;T attend, your good health will suffer! So please come on down and visit your neighbor while losing a pound = or two! Everyone is welcome.

This= is not like a golf or bowling league where you must attend every week . . . or= not at all! Please stop by when y= ou get a chance and join in the fun.
Ø POT= LUCK/Birthday Party:
March’s potluck/birthday party will be held on M=
onday,
March 31 in the Club Room starting at 5:30. I hope to see you there.
For the funny bone
From aro= und the curve they heard screeching tires and a big splash, “Do you think,= 221; said on clergy to the other, “we should just put up a sign that says ‘Bridge Out’ instead?”
Annie re= plied, “Because people are sleeping.”
A recedi= ng hare line.
Why is t= he time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?
If tin w= histles are made out of tin, what do they make fog horns out of?
If swimm= ing is good for your shape, then why do whales look like they do?
If space= is a vacuum, who changes the bags?
If white= wine goes with fish, do white grapes go with sushi?
If you j= og backward, do you gain weight?
Bread: S= esame and poppy seeds are the only officially acceptable “spots” that should be seen on the surface of any loaf of bread. Any white or fuzzy=3Dlooking areas= are indications the bread has morphed into a science experiment.
Chip dip= : If you can take it out of its container and it bounces on the floor, it has gone b= ad.
Empty containers: Putting empty containers back into the fridge is an old trick, but it only works if you l= ive with someone or have a maid.
Postal Truck
Every Wednesday from 11:05 = AM until 11:15 AM a postal truck is in front of the 45 building to handle all your postal requests.

I’ll take you on vacations. What am I?
HOW TO KNOW IF A FRIEND OR LOVED ONE IS HAVING A STROKE
Would you be able to recognize if someone nearby was h= aving a stroke? Here are three simp= le questions you can ask a person to determine where he or she may be having a stroke:
= 1. Ask the person to smile.
= 2. Ask the person to raise both arms.
= 3. Ask the person to speak a simple sentence.
If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call= 911 immediately and describe the symptoms.&nbs= p; Do NOT Wait! A stroke = victim may suffer brain damage if people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke and act accordingly.
Researchers presenting their findings at the American =
Stroke
Association’s meeting stated that widespread use of this test could h=
elp
in the diagnosis and treatment of the stroke and prevent brain damage. For more information go to: www.amh.org/healthsrv/stroke_recognize.htm
